Top-up Health Insurance Plan

A top-up is an additional health insurance plan which is bought in addition to the base health insurance policy to enhance the coverage. A top-up health insurance is a separate policy and can be bought from a different insurer.

For instance, a top-up health insurance plan with a cover of Rs. 1 Cr and a deductible of Rs. 10 Lakh can be bought in addition to a base health insurance policy with a sum insured of Rs. 10 Lakh. In case of hospitalisation, the base health policy will cover the medical expenses. If the hospital bill exceeds Rs. 10 Lakh, the top-up policy will kick in. In case the total medical bill is Rs. 15 Lakh, the first Rs. 10 Lakh is paid under the base policy. The remaining Rs. 5 Lakh is covered by the top-up policy.

Top-up plans are cost-effective and come without any hassle. A top-up health insurance plan is a good option for someone who wants to increase their existing health insurance coverage.
