Sum Insured

The sum insured in health insurance is the maximum amount an insurance company will pay for medical expenses incurred during hospitalisation during a policy year. It is the maximum amount of coverage a person gets from their health insurance policy during a policy year. If the claim amount during a policy year exceeds the base sum insured, the policyholder has to bear the excess amount.
