Restoration Benefit / Automatic Restoration
Automatic restoration in health insurance is a feature that automatically replenishes the base sum insured upon partial or full exhaustion of the base cover and cumulative bonus in a policy year. This refill benefit is available from the second claim onwards and never applies to the first claim in a policy year.
Some plans offer one-time restoration, while multiple restorations during a policy year are available as an optional benefit. It is important to understand that automatic restoration benefits can come with certain conditions and are not always available. Conditions could include a 45-day gap between two hospitalisations or non-availability for the same person with the same illness during a policy year.
Restorations can be a useful feature for those who are likely to make multiple claims during a policy year due to the nature of the illness requiring multiple hospitalisations. It could also be beneficial in family floater plans as multiple members of the family share the same sum insured.
Restoration benefit is also called refill benefit.
Carefully review the terms of your health insurance policy to understand the restoration benefit available to you.
