Pre-Hospitalisation Expenses
Pre-hospitalisation expenses refer to the medical expenses incurred by a person before a period of hospitalisation. This includes doctor consultations, diagnostic tests, investigative examinations, cost of medicines, etc.
In the context of health insurance, many health insurance plans in India offer coverage for pre-hospitalisation expenses, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. For example, a health insurance policy might cover pre-hospitalisation expenses for up to 90 days before hospitalisation, subject to a maximum of 10% of the sum insured.
We recommend that you buy a health insurance policy with coverage for pre-hospitalisation expenses for comprehensive health coverage. Read your policy document to understand the terms of coverage.
In case of a claim, the policyholder needs to provide all the relevant bills of costs incurred towards pre-hospitalisation expenses to the insurance company. The insurer will review the documents and settle the claim as per the terms of the policy.
