Post-Hospitalisation Expenses

Post-hospitalisation expenses refer to the post-discharge medical expenses incurred by a person after a period of hospitalisation. This includes follow-up consultations, diagnostic tests, cost of medicines, etc.

In the context of health insurance, many health insurance plans in India offer coverage for post-hospitalisation expenses, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. For example, a health insurance policy might cover post-hospitalisation expenses for up to 180 days before hospitalisation, subject to a maximum of 10% of the sum insured.

We recommend that you buy a health insurance policy with coverage for post-hospitalisation expenses for comprehensive health coverage. Read your policy document to understand the terms of coverage.

In case of a claim, the policyholder needs to provide all the relevant bills of costs incurred towards post-hospitalisation expenses to the insurance company. The insurer will review the documents and settle the claim as per the terms of the policy.
