Moratorium Period
The moratorium period in health insurance refers to the contestability period of a health insurance contract. After the completion of the moratorium period, no health insurance claims are contestable except for proven fraud or permanent exclusions specified in the policy document.
As specified by IRDAI, the moratorium period in health insurance is 5 years. After the completion of 5 continuous years under a health insurance policy, no look back at the claims can be applied by the insurance company except for fraud or permanent exclusions.
