Indemnity

Indemnity refers to payment of financial losses or damages caused by an unforeseen event, often under an insurance policy. The insurance policy is a contractual agreement between the insurer and the policyholder. The insurer agrees to indemnify or pay for the financial losses incurred by the policyholder in exchange for premium payments.

For example, if you buy a health insurance policy, your insurer indemnifies you by paying your medical bills if you fall sick and get medical treatment in a hospital. In return, you pay regular premiums to your insurer to keep your policy active.
