Domiciliary Hospitalisation
Domiciliary hospitalisation refers to forced hospitalisation at home for a prolonged illness that would, in a normal course, require care and treatment at a hospital.
Regular health insurance policies in India now offer cover for domiciliary hospitalisation. The policy covers the cost of a doctor’s visit, nursing charges, diagnostic tests, medical equipment required for treatment, etc. However, the cover is usually subject to these conditions.
- The patient is not in a condition to be moved to a hospital.
- The patient takes treatment at home on account of non-availability of room in a hospital.
Domiciliary hospitalisation in other circumstances is not covered.
Though you can utilise domiciliary hospitalisation benefit under rare circumstances, it is good to have this cover under your health insurance policy.
